The Hooshami Old Iron Merchants Association was established on 11th December 1938 to unite the Traders in Iron and Steel and to protect their interests and to promote their cause.

Exactly after 40 years, i.e. on 4th January 1979 the name of the Association was changed to “The Darukhana Iron Steel & Scrap Merchants Association”.

The Association started with 73 Members (promoted by just 5 members) and today has a membership 800.

About 95% of the Traders of Darukhana Dealing in Iron & Steel is represented by the Association.

The Membership comprises dealers and traders of Iron & Steel Scrap, Prime Steel, Rolling Mills, Anchor manufacturers, Profile Cutters, Ship Breakers, Ship’s Suppliers etc.

The Association is represented on The Indian Merchants Chamber, The Federation of Associations of Maharashtra, The Federation of Iron & Steel Trade Association of India, The Bombay Metropolitan Region Iron & Steel Market Committee and various Committees appointed by the State Government for facilitating the Shifting of the wholesale Iron 7 Steel Markets of the Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai.

The Association is a recognized spokesperson of the Trade before the Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority the City & industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra of Maharashtra Ltd. the Mumbai Port Trust, The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai & various semi-Government and quasi-Government bodies.

The Association represents Members problems before the Steel Authority of India Ltd. and other prime producers of Steel, The Ministry of Steel etc. in matters pertaining to distribution policy, package deals, payment criteria etc.

The Association is represented on the Bombay Iron & Steel labour Board and contributed in its functioning as an effective catalyst between employers and employees.

The Association is one of the constituent member Associations of the MBPT Land Users Action Committee formed in 1982, which is locked in long struggle with the Mumbai Port Trust in the matter of exorbitant revision in the rent for the plots belonging to MBPT.

The Association disseminates information about various developments in the Iron & Steel Industry, Publishes Regular newsletters giving prices of Iron & Steel items, J.P.C. announcements and also matters of Interest in the political social and economic spheres.

The Association is one of the constituent – Associations of the Joint Kalamboli Steel Market Committee which has been involved right from 1979 in regular dialogues with the Authorities in facilitating the shifting of the wholesale market to Kalamboli and for a more equitable and fair deal to the wholesale traders who have booked.
